About the author
Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1901, after sending the story in a letter to a sick child and being turned down by six publishers. She printed it herself. She spent the money her books earned on Lake District farmland, and left over 4,000 acres to the National Trust — which is why that landscape still looks the way it does in her paintings.
