Maileg Size Guide

Maileg sizes are a family, not a chart. Once you know that a Little Brother is smaller than a Big Brother, and that both live in Mouse-sized furniture, the rest falls into place quickly.

The confusing part is that Maileg runs two separate worlds side by side. The mice are sized by who they are in the family. The bunnies and rabbits are sized by number. Each world has its own furniture and its own house, and the two scales are close enough to look interchangeable in photographs without actually being interchangeable.

Here is how it all fits together.

The mouse family

Three generations, smallest to largest. Everyone here belongs in Mouse furniture and the Mouse Hole Farmhouse.

Size Where it sits Furniture that fits
Baby The tiniest. Sold as sleepy/wakey mice, twins and triplets, usually in a matchbox. Mouse furniture, and the smaller My pieces — cradles, playpens, prams
Little Brother & Sister The everyday size, and the one most people start with. Mouse furniture. Also the scale the Suitcasa is built around
Big Brother & Sister A clear step up from Little — around an inch taller in the box. Mouse furniture
Mum & Dad The parents. The largest of the house-sized mice. Mouse furniture
Grandma & Grandpa The same height as Mum and Dad — the difference is the outfit, not the scale. Mouse furniture
Medium & Maxi Much larger. These are for holding, not for housing. None — too big for the Farmhouse

If you are buying a first mouse: Little Brother or Little Sister in a matchbox is the one to start with. It is the size most of the furniture, cars and bicycles are built around, and the matchbox makes it a complete gift on its own.

Bunnies and rabbits

Two things to know before the sizes. First, bunnies have ears that hang down and rabbits have ears that stand up — that is the whole difference between the two names. Second, their sizes are numbered rather than tied to family roles, so a Size 1 is not anyone's little brother. It is simply the smallest of the numbered range.

Size Where it sits Furniture that fits
My The smallest, and small enough to share the baby mice's furniture. My furniture
Micro A step up from My, still tiny. Micro furniture, and My pieces like the playpen
Size 1 The smallest of the numbered rabbits. Miniature furniture, House of Miniature
Size 2 Still house-sized. Miniature furniture, House of Miniature
Size 3 Past the furniture, into cuddling territory. None
Size 4 Bigger again. None
Size 5 The largest. A proper companion, roughly toddler-armful. None

Teddies

The teddies run on their own naming — Teddy Baby, Teddy Junior, Teddy Mum and Dad — and they share the bunny and rabbit world rather than the mouse one. Teddy Baby is small enough for My-sized pieces such as the playpen and cradle, and the teddies as a group belong with Miniature furniture and the House of Miniature.

The three houses

House Built for Furnish it with
Mouse Hole Farmhouse The whole mouse family, Baby through Grandparents Mouse furniture
House of Miniature Bunnies and rabbits in My, Micro, Size 1 and Size 2, plus the teddies Miniature furniture
Suitcasa Little Brother and Little Sister mice — a slightly smaller scale than the Farmhouse Mouse furniture, chosen for the smaller rooms

The four furniture scales

  • Mouse — the main range. Kitchens, beds, bathtubs, cars, bicycles. Made for the mouse family.
  • Miniature — for bunnies and rabbits in Size 1 and Size 2, and for the teddies.
  • Micro — its own small range, for the Micro bunnies and rabbits.
  • My — the smallest pieces. Made for My-sized rabbits, and just right for baby mice and Teddy Baby.

The short version

If you have Buy furniture marked And the house is
Any mouse Mouse Mouse Hole Farmhouse
A baby mouse Mouse or My Mouse Hole Farmhouse
A My rabbit My House of Miniature
A Micro bunny or rabbit Micro or My House of Miniature
A Size 1 or 2 bunny or rabbit Miniature House of Miniature
A Size 3, 4 or 5 Nothing — this one is for holding Your arms
A teddy Miniature, or My for Teddy Baby House of Miniature

None of this is a rule. Plenty of families end up with a Size 3 rabbit sitting on the farmhouse roof, and that is entirely the point of the thing. The scales are there to help you buy, not to tell anyone how to play.
